Transforming MelbourneREPORTS ON THE RESEARCH OF THE WHOLE CHURCH IN MELBOURNE MISSION RESPONSE BOOK Now available as a DOWNLOADABLE PDF or HARDCOPY This research gives a picture of the Church in Melbourne that has never been available before. For the first time ever, the National Church Life Survey results from participating denominations have been combined. Data from extensive additional surveys carried out by Transforming Melbourne and other CRA research has been added, and all this put alongside the National Census figures. The result is a snap shot of the size, vitality, diversity and trends in the life of the Body of Christ in our city, together with descriptive reports on many vital aspects and ministries of the Church. The picture in this Report reveals the strengths of the Church, the great range of resources and the vital support provided for the people across Melbourne by local churches, Christian welfare agencies, Christian schools, health care and chaplaincies in many sectors of society. It also compares Church data with the demographics of the city. There are many encouraging aspects of the report, but the statistics of the Church as whole and the current trends are a shock. The good news is they provide a basis for developing effective and strategic plans for collaborative mission and ministry to reverse these trends. This project was endorsed by 25 Church Denominations, the Victorian Council of Churches and many Christian ministry organisations. "The “All Melbourne Matters” report is an exciting and challenging document for all who share the good news of Jesus. It will be of great value to all who seek to lead the Australian church into the future." Alan Marr, General Secretary, Baptist Union of Victoria "I believe that this research will be a vital resource for the church in Melbourne to minister effectively in the years to come. Church history reveals that when the church is able to identify critical issues in culture and society and responds to these issues while remaining faithful to the gospel, great things happen." Wynand de Kock, Principal, Tabor College "As a Pastor I see this research project as the most important contribution made by any organisation in almost 50 years. The results of this research will give us an unparalleled opportunity to consider an informed and united response to the needs of our great city. " Graeme Cann, Leader of Casey Pastors Network, Assoc. Pastor, Berwick Church of Christ "This research report is a significant undertaking that will greatly benefit the wider church in Melbourne, as well as each local church, to be aware of the challenge ahead of us as we seek to reach out to our great city with God’s love."
